The deadline for entering the RAM Writing Contest has been extended to January 4, 2020!

We’ll award prizes for the best stories at the Annual Gathering. So, gather your words and give us your fiction, your non-fiction, anything you’d like to share in the Richmond Area Mensa Writing Contest. Send in your best 1,500 words, but be sure to follow these guidelines:

1. All entries are due no later than 11:59 pm (EST) on January 04, 2020 by electronic submission to [email protected]. Use the PDF format if at all possible. If not, an RTF file will do. If you’ve already submitted your work, there is no need to resubmit unless you’ve made any changes.
   
2. Keep it clean folks! We’re a family-friendly group. No excessive violence, sex, or generally offensive material.
   
3. Watch your spelling, punctuation, and grammar. This can hurt or help your entry.
   
4. Every entry should be double spaced. A Cover Page with the author’s name and contact info should be included. The author’s name must not appear on any page of the entry other than the cover sheet. Once the entry is received, a coded number will be assigned and put on all of the pages. Judges will be given the coded entry without the cover sheet to preserve impartiality.
   
5. Winners will be announced at the Annual Gathering. The Grand Prize winning entry will also be published in the next newsletter as space permits.
   
6. There will be five prizes available:
   
   1. Grand Prize is $50
      
   2. First Prize is $25
      
   3. Second Prize is $10
      
   4. Third Place will also receive $10
      
   5. An honorable mention will receive $5.

Our annual gathering will be on Saturday, January 11, 2020 from 11am to 4pm in the Brunswick Room on the 3rd floor of the Madison Building at the Virginia Crossings Hotel.

Activities

There will be snacks and non-alcoholic drinks in the Brunswick Room throughout the event and we will break from 12 noon to 1pm for a buffet lunch at the Glen Restaurant (1st floor of the Madison Building). If we have more attendees than allowed in the Brunswick Room, we will be moved to a larger room, possibly in the Jefferson Building (this will be communicated as we get closer to the event date).

After lunch, member Andrew W. will present a talk titled The Importance of Critical Thinking.

Possible additional activities are in the works and will be communicated on Facebook, the website and via email as they are finalized.
