I've heard about Mensa and I'm interested. How do I join?
To qualify for membership, you must score in the top 2% on a standardized test of intelligence. Richmond Area Mensa has proctors who typically schedule testing sessions every other month. The cost for testing is $60, and that is for two tests. As long as you scope in the top 2% on at least one of them, you will be extended an invitation to join Mensa.
Check our events calendar to see exactly where and when tests are held in the central Virginia area. To reserve a seat for testing, contact the Testing Coordinator via the contact us page.
To find out more about the process, visit American Mensa's Join page. There's also a nation-wide testing calendar. All membership issues are handled by the American Mensa Ltd. national office. Richmond Area Mensa does not process memberships.

What special provisions are being made during the pandemic?
Ordinarily, we run in-person testing sessions so that interested candidates in the local area can see whether they qualify for membership. The pandemic has made that challenging, of course. But there is another way to test.
Since October 2020, there is a new way to qualify for Mensa membership. In addition to Local Group testing and Prior Evidence submission, candidates can schedule a private test session at one of the more than 600 nationwide testing facilities available through a new partner, Prometric.

I've already taken an IQ/intelligence test. What score do I need to qualify for Mensa?
Your score must be in the top 2% of those taking the test. The IQ number varies depending on which test you take since all are scored differently. Mensa accepts the scores from many standardized tests. To find out what score you need and which tests qualify, read the American Mensa Qualifying Scores page.
Hey! I looked up my scores and I qualify. What do I do now?
Follow the instructions on the American Mensa site to submit your test scores.
